The gig.
Q4 is looking for a talented technical writer to join our emerging technical writing team and contribute to the Product team by creating sophisticated technical documentation for a variety of software products. As a technical writer at Q4, you will help improve our product experiences and increase our user enablement by translating complex data and information into simple, engaging educational materials that will empower our users to achieve their goals. You’ll help define and create standards that will elevate our copy, set the vision for content, and drive cohesive narratives across multiple enterprise products. 
The successful candidate is a savvy communicator with an impeccable ear for tone and voice and the ability to scrutinize the unnecessary. You are focused on understanding how our clients use our product, and the content you create will guide them to follow the best practices and achieve their intended outcomes.
Please note, this role will be a 6 month contract with the possibility of extension.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write new content or update materials prepared by other members of the Product Team. Publish deliverables including but not limited to knowledge base articles, release notes, feature guides, product documentation. 
  • Gather and analyze technical and product information from various sources to document new or changing product functionality.
  • Create in-depth user guides, FAQ’s, technical overviews, and in-product help documentation.
  • Work within Agile development processes to support scrum teams in an R&D environment.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and have the ability to gather information for a writing assignment from a variety of sources, including development, QA, UX and product management.


  • Minimum 5 years experience in a similar role with a Product team.
  • Proven track record of producing high-quality, clear, accurate, and complete documentation with no errors, within established deadlines.
  • Excellent knowledge of content/help authoring tools, such as Paligo, Arbortext Epic Editor, Adobe FrameMaker, and MadCap Flare.
  • Knowledge of structured authoring, and topic-based authoring framework.
  • Working knowledge of CSS and HTML.
  • Technical capability to provide administrative support for Confluence and JIRA.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and have exceptional analytical skills.
  • Flexibility to easily flow with changing priorities, projects, and processes.
  • Comfortable with managing multiple projects and deliverables.
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize complex content.
  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills.
  • Interested in researching and learning new technologies in Technical Communications.
  • Strong portfolio of relevant writing examples.
  • University degree or college diploma in English, Communications, Technical Writing or a related field.
  • Financial content experience is an asset.
