People Advisor

This is a Contract position in Calgary, AB posted May 12, 2019.

Position Summary Reporting into the Principal People Advisor, Nancy Mowat, the People Advisor role is key to establishing long term partnerships with team members and leadership within our organization.

This role provides business leaders with professional human resources expertise and advice in maintaining positive relationships with team members.

He or she coaches leaders to lead, sustain and evolve our culture of engagement, learning, development and performance management.

People Advisors will be active in other core People & Culture activities such as recruitment, career development, employee relations, recognition and compensation.

Areas of Responsibility Recruitment & Onboarding Work with the business leaders as a human resources business partner to execute full cycle recruitment activities, providing expertise on sourcing, interviewing, employment and background checks, testing, offers, and onboarding; Function as Brookfield’s primary contact point with candidates and new hires to assist them with inquiries and orientation process; Oversee the onboarding process from start to finish, including Workday, and coaching leaders on first year milestone touch points; Support initiatives and develop relationships with professional & trades associations, campus and industry organizations to source exceptional candidates; Utilize and measure cost-effective recruitment sources (Internet, direct search, referrals, social media, advertising and networking) to generate qualified candidates; Develop and recommend recruitment procedural improvements; Revise forms, templates, and workflows; Participate in regular meetings with center-led team to offer suggestions for process improvements and share best practices; Participate in Career Fairs/Community Outreach programs; Assist in tracking sources; Analyze cost-benefit; Organize promotional material, etc.; Learning & Development Assist delivery of specialized training programs (i.e.

360˚, Leadership Development, etc.); Communicate, gather feedback and consult on program phases and activities and proactively apprise senior management and stakeholders regarding program updates, trends and recommendations; Coordinate New Hire Orientation; People & Culture Processes and Employee Engagement Create and deliver People & Culture-related team member communications, new programs and events to team members; Communicate and advise managers, supervisors and team members on people & culture policies; May assist in developing internal policies and documentation that align with corporate policies; Create New Hire/Turnover reports, People & Culture Marketing and Communication reports (for Career Fairs, job postings, People & Culture Quarterly report, etc.); Compile relative People & Culture metrics, analyze data using statistical methods and applications to evaluate the outcomes and effectiveness of workplace programs, and identify trends; Employee Relations & Performance Management Collaborate and coach leaders and team members to effectively handle performance management and employee relations issues; Travel to local field sites (on a periodic basis) to enhance relationships and provide support; Actively visible and accessible to division leaders in an operating and advisory setting; Educate team members to promote increased understanding of management’s goals and policies.

Assist in correcting or enhancing performance, misconduct, and/or to address business/personal issues that affect their performance in the workplace; Compensation & Benefits Coordinate and support the development and modification of position descriptions for new jobs, redesigned positions and organization changes; Work with Corporate Compensation team on competitive survey matching and with leaders to ensure correct matches are used in each survey; Work with leaders on setting new hire rates, annual merit review decision making and on ensuring a connection between pay and individual performance; Advise team members on Benefits Program options available, provide new hires with benefits overview for Onboarding, and may assist and/or deliver benefits-related presentations and information sessions; Payroll, Compliance, & Process Efficiency Liaise with payroll on a timely basis to ensure processes and systems are accurate and effective; Ensure labor law compliance and maintain team member files to ensure compliance; Update and maintain People information in HRIS system and on Brookfield Residential intranet; Create reporting as needed; and, Participate on select cross functional or company-wide committee(s); Qualifications Business degree with a major in Human Resources preferred.

A degree in adult education, another Business major, or a related discipline may be considered.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered; Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive HR generalist and business partner experience; 3-5 years recruitment experience, ideally up to 10 concurrent searches and up to 24 hires/year; 3-5 years employee relations experience, including conducting and documenting interviews; Proven ability to coach leaders through difficult conversations; Demonstrated ability to ask questions and learn a complex business; Proven ability to build strong relationships with dedicated client groups; Experience translating benefits to team members; and, CPHR designation (or equivalent) is an asset.
