Job Description The Locomotive Operator is responsible for providing safe and efficient rail car switching services at our Hamilton site.

Working in a fast-paced environment, the Locomotive Operator must work well in teams to maximize efficiency and safety, while demonstrating a strong initiative and organizational skills.The ideal candidate must have a strong work ethic and have the ability to use new system platforms to document work flow.

Roles & Responsibilities The incumbent works in a team environment to provide safe and effective switching services.

Ensuring safe operation of the locomotive and train movements including conducting clear and concise job briefings and providing protection of train, track, and equipment.

Applying rules, special instructions, and switching procedures while operating as a locomotive operator including operating switches and derails, coupling and uncoupling rail cars, managing air hoses, applying and releasing handbrakes.

Completing daily inspection and testing of the locomotive brakes and safety devices.

Completing daily reports, daily logs, and other reports deemed necessary.

Complying with all applicable operating rules, switching procedures and regulations imposed by the government and AIM standards; practicing and promoting safe work habits.

Performing site track and equipment inspections including air brake tests.

Promptly reporting of all safety, equipment, and track problems.

Responsible for working with other crew members in a co-operative, respectful, professional, and efficient manner to provide safe and effective switching services.

Participating in training or company initiatives as required.

Qualifications Experience as a locomotive operator or Switchperson/Conductor required Excellent teamwork skills.

Ability to read and write general documentation including safety briefings and switching lists.

Physically fit including the ability to pull oneself up and down from a railcar on a continuous basis, able to lift and twist air hoses, able to secure rail car brakes, derails, and switches.

Be able and willing to work shift work including weekends in all weather conditions.

Physically demanding work in an all-weather, safety sensitive environment.
