Now, you’re excited for the chance to provide technical guidance in the field, assess situations, and use your expertise to make sound decisions.  If this sounds like you, we want to meet you.  Who is the employer?  Our client is a Canadian consulting company specializing in geotechnical, environmental, construction materials engineering and testing, with offices in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Ontario.  Founded over 60 years ago, they are a private, employee-owned company, who take great pride in both their technical expertise and deep commitment to their employees.  They are a focused, driven, and collaborative group of professionals, passionate about solving problems related to related to earth, the environment, and construction materials, across a wide variety of industries including transportation, building construction, municipal infrastructure, land development, dams and water resources, industrial development, mining, oil and gas, marine and environmental services.  What you’ll be doing As the new Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer, you will start as field engineer, supporting a pipeline expansion project by coordinating and carrying out geotechnical investigations and supervising implementation of geotechnical designs and other construction monitoring services.  To start, this will be a field-based role, working on a 2–3-week rotation, with future opportunity to move into the office in the Calgary location.  You will also be responsible for:  * Undertaking analysis and design tasks, summarizing, reviewing, and interpreting laboratory data* Overseeing installation of geotechnical instrumentation as well as routine monitoring of instrumentation* Scoping projects and assisting in the preparation of proposals as necessary* Provide mentoring, coaching, and training of staff* Establishing, developing, promoting, and maintaining relationships with clients and contractors* Potentially managing projects and leading multidisciplinary teams. The best in this role will bring more than solid geotechnical technical experience and understanding. They will be able to capably deal with challenging situations in the field, interface well with contractors, manage expectations, and be able to make competent and well-considered field decisions independently.  Qualifications  * P. Eng in BC (preferred) or Alberta * Minimum 5 years of experience in Geotechnical or Geological engineering, with good understanding of Western Canadian geomorphology, and associated landforms, processes, and hazards * Experience as a field engineer, working with contractors, and including construction inspection/monitoring experience * Strong understanding of soil mechanics, slope stability analysis, slope engineering, geohazards and terrain, geology and geological conditions* Experienced in the use of commercial geotechnical analytical software packages, such as GEO-STUDIO, Plaxis, Soilvision, Settle3D, LPile, etc.* Completion of a post-secondary program in Civil or Geological Engineering.* Experienced with field investigation techniques such as soil logging (auger drilling, sonic drilling, etc.), SPT, and CPT.* Comfortable working in a variety of environments, including local and remote construction sites.* Valid Class 5 Driver’s license, and comfortable driving mid to full-sized pickup trucks in urban, rural, and construction environments.* Membership with APEGA and/or EGBC. And here’s what would be an asset:  * Graduate Degree (Masters or higher).* Understanding and interest in rock mechanics.* Ability to conduct desktop and field level terrain assessments.* Experience in the interpretation and utilization of aerial photographs, as well as satellite and LiDAR imagery in the assessment of terrain and geohazards.* Pipeline routing and trenchless crossing assessments.* Familiar with geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring. Your Application We value diversity and inclusion and encourage all qualified people to apply.
