Devops specialist

This is a Full-time position in St Catharines, ON posted May 10, 2019.

Purpose of the Job: The DevOps Specialist is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, evolving and supporting deployment tool that support application releases.

The specialist is responsible to provide 24/7 critical application support for core systems, ensure the stability and performance of Meridian’s Staging, Production and DR environments, as well as accountable to develop and maintain all documentation, process, and technology standards.

Working closely with developers, infrastructure and release team, the specialist will look for every opportunity in automating the software development/delivery process from inception to deployment and operations.

The successful candidate will have strong technical and problem-solving skills and will show initiative, be accepting of responsibility and be accountable for results.

Key Responsibilities: Take ownership and collaborate with developers, infrastructure, QA and release team to implement a continuous code deployment process from development to production.

Improves the automated deployment processes, techniques, and tools.

Ensure information security standards and requirements are incorporated into all solutions.

Implement regular scheduled code release to all environments and recommend process efficiency improvement, where applicable.

Evaluate new technologies and make recommendations on how to streamline or improve systems Improves operation and monitoring of advanced or complex features.

Provides, maintains, and manages the appropriate release policy, processes, standards, and procedures.

Responsible for monitoring, measuring, performance tuning and forecasting for capacity; for all defined applications.

Contribute to the ongoing support, stability and performance of application systems in production including problem analysis, resolution, escalation and reporting as necessary Provide 24×7 on-call support on rotational basis for core applications and databases.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience: Experience and Mandatory Skills: 3+ years of progressive IT experience with full SDLC and system integration.

3+ years of experience with scripting languages like Powershell or Python, setting up and configuring application performance monitoring and alerting.

Experience with source code management tools, using and configuring build tools, such as TFS.

Development experience in C#, .NET, .ASP, or Java Working knowledge of Windows Server and IIS Knowledge of system analysis skills including detailed system and job scheduling design/deployment.

In depth understanding of application release procedures, including risk assessment and mitigation steps.

Working knowledge of SQL Server and relational databases.

Experience working part of on-call rotation in a 24x7x365 financial environment.

Assets: Knowledge of BMC TrueSight AppVisibility Product.

Knowledge of financial industries.

Knowledge of Microsoft Operation Manager Analytical and excellent presentation skills.

People Skills and Ethics Strong organizational, writing, interpersonal and communication skills.

Exceptional attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.

Possess excellent time and project management skills.

Ability to work efficiently under pressure.

Able to work, prioritize and plan workload, and to meet deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment Exhibit a strong ability to work in a team and provide assistance to other team members 24×7.

Service oriented and customer focused, with the enthusiasm and tenacity to meet goals and commitments of the team.

Exhibit strong planning skills that will contribute to departmental initiatives.

Must be self-motivated, proactive, reliable and dedicated.
