Hours: Monday to Friday, Days (Hours subject to change based on operational needs)

Job Summary:

We are currently seeking a Pharmacy Technician to assist patients in accessing medications via coordination of third party insurers and publically funded programs (e.g., Ontario Drug Benefit, Special Access Programs, Trillium Program) or explore other funding modalities. This individual will be working closely with the oncology care team (physicians, nurses, social workers, pharmacy technicians and pharmacists) through effective evaluation, facilitation, and coordination to ensure optimal patient care outcomes.

This is what you will be doing:

  • Assist and educate patients in exploration of drug funding routes through public and private support and funding options (e.g., ODB, EAP, SAP, Trillium, Industry sponsored patient assistance programs, compassionate and third party plans)
  • Gathering necessary information for completion and submission to available funding programs. Perform regular follow up on submitted applications and provide routine status updates to patients and oncology care team as required
  • Coordinating with various programs (e.g., Oncology Assistance Programs, compassionate support programs) in a timely manner to aid in medication administration. Coordination with LHIN partners if patient treatment is transferred to other hospitals
  • May be required to perform other tasks and duties as assigned

This is what you’ll need to do it:

  • Completion of a recognized college level Pharmacy Assistant or Technician Program required
  • Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP)
  • Previous experience with intravenous admixture service, including sterile preparation of oncological medication preferred
  • Oncology-related experience in an acute care setting of Hospital practice
  • Knowledge of Cancer Care Ontario New Drug Funding Program guidelines, policies and procedures preferred
  • Experience with third party payers and assistance programs, preferred
  • Must be well-organized, self-directed, set priorities, and manage time effectively
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Previous hospital experience with unit dose and/or automated drug distribution system technologies (e.g. dispensing cabinets, high speed packagers, robotic packaging or picking equipment, bar code verification, etc.) preferred
  • Sound knowledge of Pharmacy information systems in relation to oncology preferred
  • Flexible, punctual and have a satisfactory employment and attendance record
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position
