Project Controller

Backwoods Energy Services

This is a Contract position in Vancouver, ia posted September 11, 2021.

Role Summary The controller will be reporting the Director of Security, they will be responsible for monitoring budgets, creating field tickets for clients, monitoring expenses, and tracking of job margins.

The controller will make suggestions to the project team throughout the month to ensure projects and the division are hitting targets.

The controller will also look ahead at future divisional goals to ensure targets can be achieved.

Responsibilities Manage and update weekly Corporate Project Risk assessment.

Attend Weekly PRA meeting.

Follow-up all action items developed from PRA under project controls section.

Manage all aspects of cost for each project Monitor invoicing, expenses, reimbursements, and payroll administration.

Monitor and update budgets.

Manage the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for accurate accounting and consolidated business reporting; ensuring that management is provided with information vital to the decision-making process.

Assess current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement, and implementing new process or process efficiencies.

Complete daily field ticketing for each job location including following up with clients on outstanding field tickets and payments.

Complete inputs for payroll for all hourly staff, and verifying accuracy of each employees’ hours.

Accurately forecast and trend accrual cost as well as total costs estimate associated with all project for each financial reporting period.

Gather information from operation project team, procurement, and accounting to prepare accrual estimate for all Backwoods Security projects at each month end.

Review and audit projects with low margin or at loss to identify causes, risks and recommend mitigation strategies.

Oversee and assess operation material, labor, and equipment required and analyze different quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.

Review and audit all labour cost to align with bid costs and operation budget for the purpose of maintaining margin requirement.

Collaborate with procurement to ensure equipment rentals, vendor/subcontractor costs are aligned with bid estimate and budget for the purpose of maintaining margin requirement.

Active and timely reporting to Director of Security on any identified risks within projects or company for any misalignment of costs vs financial performance.

Develop in conjunction with other business leaders the program performance standards and suitable performance measurement methods to be used during the planning, execution and closeout of Backwoods projects.

Facilitate policy, process and procedure development in Procurement, Financial department that will better integrate with project controls procedure.

Provide all necessary project controls data or analysis as required by each department leaders.

Oversee and manage process of change orders with Operation team and check estimates using appropriate methods and techniques.

Facilitate each project controls/change management protocols.

Audit project change estimate vs internal cost change to ensure all change related additional cost is captured under change management process.

Utilize the appropriate company tools to audit various aspects of projects, such as tracking costs, audit billing tickets, and review invoices.

Demonstrate leadership, conflict resolution, team building and mentoring skills consistent with Backwoods values and mission.

Critical thinking on current issues and roadblocks to provide problem solving solutions.

Always promote Backwoods virtues and our financial performance.

Be forward looking and forthcoming to the Director of Security regarding concerns; and Additional and alternative duties that may be changed from time-to-time by the Employer.

Qualifications Project Controls experience of 3-5 years Accounting background is considered and asset Effective communication Skills Detail orientated and extremely organized Technical Competency Experience in leading the monthly close and reporting processes, budgets and forecasts.

Key Performance Indicators Accurately report risk rating and margins for all projects both in bid, execution and closeout phases Development of accurate accrual estimate on each project month end report Oversee change order process to ensure operation teams to manage project changes and comply with contract requirements.
