Address: 100 King Street West Job Family Group: Commercial Sales & Service Detailed accountabilities: Media and Government Relations This thought leader in the industry is accountable to support the effective relationship with media and government to manage the image , reputation and promote the overall interests of BMO Financial Group.

Develops strong relationships and industry expertise to be viewed as a trusted strategic partner and national presence in the Indigenous Banking market, who is called upon by Indigenous customers, Indigenous associations, government agencies and Indigenous Banking market groups to provide advice and guidance that impacts the overall business direction, resolving issues and inquiries as necessary.

Establishes and fosters positive media relationships consistent with Corporate Communications protocols Represent BMO as the national, positive presence in Indigenous markets including, but not limited to associations and government agencies i.e.

, CIRNAC and ISC Actively relationship manage key Indigenous Banking influencers and leaders, both current and future.

Strategic Business Planning Partners with Commercial Banking and Business Banking Regional Heads as well as others parts of BMO Financial Group who interact with Indigenous clients & takes lead to develop short and longer term marketing and strategic plans which contribute to business growth and profitability.

Develops and executes a long term Indigenous Banking strategy and roadmap to optimize performance and productivity, increase market share and ensure the achievement of a differentiated customer experience and overall business objectives.

Develops strategic and innovative Indigenous Banking product, policy and service recommendations for consideration by the CB/BB leadership teams to maximize profitability and customer experience.

Develops a deep understanding of the short and long term business strategy and all existing policies in order to evolve the IBU infrastructure in alignment with other organizational capabilities and frameworks Gathers, monitors and analyzes internal and external data to provide insights for strategic opportunities and recommendations on Indigenous Banking solutions/programs/processes in alignment the overall Canadian Business Banking, Commercial Banking and BMO Financial Group strategy and integrating with other line of business company initiatives where appropriate Develops a coordinated strategy across all business groups including, but not limited to Diversity, Corporate Sponsorship, Capital Markets, Wealth Management, to optimize business and other opportunities Customer Focus Proactively seeks opportunities for the team to develop new business by establishing and actively managing new and existing programs and their ensuing relationships with contacts/networks.

Leverages customer and environmental insights to identify, analyze and size opportunities, and monitor competitive activities.

Develops/assists in the development of business cases for proposed business development programs, assessing and including recommendations to mitigate segment-specific risks, filtering and prioritizing opportunities presented by the salesforce, customers, associations and external businesses seeking to partner with the Bank based on size of opportunity, ROI and strategic fit.

Creates unique value propositions offering holistic financial solutions through the identification and analysis of the banking challenges of Indigenous banking customers.

This could include Business Banking, Commercial Banking, Capital Markets, Wealth Management, and Trust company Develops and packages comprehensive, integrated banking packages to address the full-range of financial services needs, using market expertise to maximize value creation and benefits to the Indigenous Banking sector and optimally position the Bank as a financial services provider of choice.

Supports the development of strategic sales initiatives, and inputs into appropriate sales and/or marketing materials to optimize positioning and promotion of holistic financial services programs.

Managerial Leadership A team of highly skilled Indigenous Banking Professionals who currently maintain relationships with hundreds of communities across the country.

Guides the team as they provide subject matter expertise training and support as required, to front line salesforce and other customer-facing roles (Capital Markets, Wealth Management).

Builds and sustains a team that is capable of delivering the performance required for the group, including coaching and the creation and implementation of success metrics and training and development plans.

Provides advice to assist in the preparation of deals and assessing exception requests relative to authorized program guidelines Takes ownership of emerging issues and events impacting Business Banking and Commercial Banking.

Sets appropriate context and establishes prescribed limits for the , including setting an effective framework of policies and procedures for the work in the group.

Establishes a two-way working relationship with team members to solicit their views on the working environment, potential changes affecting their work, continuous improvement opportunities, and revisions to the plan.

Applies the Bank’s performance management system, including establishing goals and objectives, assessing skilled knowledge gaps, allocating resources to achieve objectives and close gaps, assessing personal effectiveness, and reviewing and recommending base and variable pay for the IBU team.

Ensures the effective implementation of Bank initiatives and programs through the establishment of appropriate context and setting of direction for the team by providing relevant information, establishing goals, and setting limits with the context and prescribed limits of the Group Head Directs the development and maintenance of directives and policies with Risk Management for new and existing products including new functionality in existing products to manage potential risk exposure.

Builds and maintain a diverse workforce that mirrors the communities in the portfolio and that is consistent with BMO corporate culture Risk Management Together with Enterprise Risk & Portfolio Management, designs and implements an effective escalation process for the risk control framework, ensuring that risks and breaches of risk tolerances are raised through the risk management committee structure and management spine for awareness, discussion and decisioning.

Optimizes risk/return of the portfolio by deploying risk capital in a manner consistent with established risk appetite and return objectives of the enterprise and group.

Manages asset quality of portfolio ensuring acceptable levels by partnering closely with divisional credit leaders providing coaching to teams to minimize credit exposures as needed.

As the first line of defense, provides oversight, management and control of risks in the Indigenous Banking segment business, including the design, and enhancement as appropriate, of methods to identify, measure, manage, monitor, and report on all risks (including credit, liquidity, operational, anti-money laundering and compliance risk) in alignment with the control framework and Corporate Policy standards.

This also includes the responsibility for developing a ‘risk aware’ and a ‘risk accountable’ culture amongst their employees and leaders.

Qualifications Post secondary education 10 years experience in financial services and/or other relevant experience In-depth understanding of Indigenous communities and relations In-depth experience in relationship management with internal and external organizations and speaking engagements In-depth experience creating extensive networks Expert risk management capabilities, Analytical Thinking (In-depth) Business Acumen (Expert) Environmental Understanding (Expert) Influence (Expert) Managerial Leadership (In-depth) Strategic Business Planning (Expert) The Head Indigenous Banking Unit (IBU) owns the strategic segment of Canadian Indigenous Banking for BMO FG, designing, developing and implementing it’s strategy and innovation plan.

The Head of BMO’s IBU will manage all aspects/activities of the Indigenous Banking, including identification, development, maintenance and relationship management of a portfolio of Indigenous Banking programs to better enable the sales activities of the sales-force nationally.

The successful candidate will drive the IBU’s North American business development and share of wallet growth, partnering with the Canadian Business Banking (BB)/Canadian Commercial Banking (CB) sales force, BMO Trust Company, Private Banking, Global Asset Management and Capital Markets, providing holistic financial solutions (including credit, deposits, group banking plans, payments and both internal and external product offerings) and specific Indigenous market knowledge to provide customers with trusted advice and guidance.

The incumbent represents the bank both externally and internally as an expert resource, acting as the Bank’s Senior Leadership Representative within Indigenous Communities.

This includes building and maintaining relationships with key influencers related to existing and new programs, developing an effective internal and external network of industry contacts and Centres-Of-Influence.
