Scanning probe microscopes (SPMs) and related nanotechnology instruments generate dense, multi-dimensional data sets which must be carefully considered to determine statistically meaningful and scientifically valid results.

The ideal SPM-DS is passionate about physical science and is ready to contribute to the development of advanced nanotechnologies by providing expertise in data processing/automation, data handling/modeling, and statistical analysis.Duties and Responsibilities
·Perform publication-quality data collation, integrity/validity testing, mining, analysis and documentation on structured and unstructured data sets to generate meaningful insights
·Interface with experimental and theory-based groups within CBN Nanotechnologies to coordinate data-gathering best practices and provide data-driven feedback
·Apply physics-based and statistical models to the analysis of SPM and related data
·Develop or apply tools for use in the dynamic gathering, characterization, and structuring of extended and/or expanding datasets
·Provide analytical support to other scientists in a project-focused, multi-disciplinary environment
·Develop protocols to streamline data input, meta-data tagging, log generation, and related tasks
·Condense and interpret data for internal feedback, presentations, and other communications
·Illustrate, document, and provide data-supported reasoning for statistical interpretation/validity
·Provide regular updates on and feedback to multiple on-going projects relying on statistical analysis and data mining to direct future effortsRequired Skills and Experience
·Strong experience in statistical analysis and/or data analytics
·Data management, organization, processing
·Experience using machine learning to solve real-world problems
·Demonstrated knowledge of statistical analysis techniques, tests, and software
·Graduate and/or industry experience strongly preferred
·Experience in scripting and/or programming to automate analysis required
·Good programming skills in Python, Ruby, MATLAB, R, or other relevant languages.
·Willingness and ability to learn supplementary material outside one’s field of specialization
·Effective written and verbal communication skills in EnglishPreferred Skills and Experience
·Strong background/interest in physical sciences
·Experience working on data-sets in collaboration with groups generating said data-sets
·Familiarity with statistical modeling/analysis tools used to predict/interpret patterns

Hours are somewhat flexible, and some late evenings may be required.
